Conferences for Democracy and Peace across Kurdistan, final resolutions published‏

Dear friends,

When leader of the Kurdish movement Abdullah Ocalan called for a ceasefire on 21 March this year, he also proposed four conferences to be held in Ankara, Diyarbakir, Hewler and Brussels to discuss the ongoing process for peace and democratic politics. These conferences are an opportunity for the Kurdish movement to develop unity and common goals in the pursuit of peace and justice. They also offer the chance to further involve the Kurdish people in the peace process, to socialise the negotiations through participatory and democratic means. 

Conferences have already taken place in Ankara (25-26 May) and Diyarbakir (15-16 June), attended by representatives of a wide variety of political, ethnic and religious groups, representing the diversity of Kurdistan, Turkey and the region. Among the demands agreed at both conferences were freedom for Ocalan; rights to language and identity for all ethnic and religious minorities; legal and constitutional reform. They both call on the Turkish government to take the necessary steps to continue with the process and build mutual trust. 

The third conference in Brussels was held last weekend (29-30 June) and we will bring you the final resolutions from there once they are published.
